Cancer is characterized as a group of diseases in which there is a development of abnormal cells, that has the ability to destroy normal tissue and spread throughout the body. It is the second leading cause of death in the United States.  However, with this group of diseases, there are many different treatment approaches and options.  Proper diet and nutrition is essential in combating this aliment.   Here are some key points to keep in mind in regards to Cancer. 

 

Key Nutritional Factors

 

Cancers require large amounts of glucose.

Produce lactic acid (waste product) that is very toxic and acidic to the body.

Causes inflammation

Increase of incidents of Breast and Colon cancer with a Western Diet

 

 

 

 

Health Tips

 

Reduce Carbohydrates (simple) by at least 10% (27gram)

Eat complex carbs from fruits and veggies

Reduced carbs can improve survival in some patients with colon and breast cancer

Weight loss- improve metabolic and hormonal balances

 

 

Type of diets

 

KETO- a state of ketosis (Low carb), where the body uses healthy fat as the main source of energy.

Cancer cells depend on glucose for energy and cannot process ketones.

Intermittent Fasting- fasting for 14-16 hours, eat between 6-8 hours window

Calorie Restriction (30%)- reduce circulation of hormones and growth factors, Reduce inflammation.

Curcumin – Turmeric (reduce inflammation)

Sulforaphane- (breast, pancreatic) cruciferous veggies - broccoli

EGCG- Green tea (leukemia)
